Communication

Book
Title / Author
    Detail / who's it for?
Title:
Fierce Conversations

Author:
Susan Scott
  • Another slightly unfortunate title - "fierce" means robust, courageous, meaningful. It's about having those conversations many of us put off
  • A communications guide for "achieving success one conversation at a time"
  • For people who are considering their communication styles and wondering if there's a better way
*

*
Title:
You Just Don't Understand

Author:
Deborah Tannen
  • In my opinion a better ()deeper, more rigorous) book than "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" but with the same intent
  • For people who want to explore the gender gaps in communication and want academic rigour behind the conclusions and recommendations
*

*
Title:
The Power of Empathy

Author:
Arthur Ciaramicoli & Katherine Ketcham
  • An excellent guide to this elusive skill - empathy
  • Written by someone who really knows their stuff - from a personal and professional perspective
  • I've had great feedback from this book
  • For people who want to understand empathy and begin to practise it
*

*
Title:
Non-violent Communication

Author:
Marshall B. Rosenberg, Ph.D
  • Another challenging title. NVC is about communicating in an effective way where everyone feels heard and where feelings and needs are an essential part of the process
  • A great introduction to the field - well written and full of examples of his amazing work. I was trained by Jo McHale, if you'd like to know mre contact her at jo@touchstones.co.uk
  • Although I've had great feedback from this book, it only really seems to come alive for people on the courses and conferences
  • For people who want to find connectinos with their colleagues, spouses or children

Emotional Intelligence

Book
Title / Author
Detail / who's the book for?
Title:
The EQ Edge

Author:
Steven J. Stein & Howard E. Book
  • A useful back-up to the Emotional Intelligence psychometric, the EQi
  • Takes each of the EQ areas and explores it. Offers techniques to improve
  • For people who have taken the EQi and want to know more

Title:
Emotionally Intelligent Living

Author:
Geetu Orme
  • An introduction to emotional intelligence
  • Takes a very personal and wll rounded perspective
  • For people wanting an introduction to emotioal intelligence
