In my opinion for coaching to work you need just three things to be present:
You have to want to do this ... for you. I sometimes get asked by HR or the CEO (or even the spouse) to coach people and I'm always very cautious in these situations because people have to want to be there doing this challenging stuff for themselves.
You have to want to make some changes, perhaps in the way you manage yourself or how you behave towards people you work with or how you manage your work / life balance or how you behave towards your children. When people work on what really matters to them coaching can make a big difference.
You have to choose a coach that's right for you. I'm very much in favour of people making informed choices as to whether or not I'm the right coach for them That's why I offer a free coaching conversation to explore whether the chemistry's right.
